Africa, Chile, Belgium, Bali and Sweden. These are just of few of the travel destinations that have inspired Sequels to showcase unusual furnishings and accessories. Many of our wonderful travel finds have landed at one of two Sequels showrooms.

My absolute favorite find was at a small antique store in Stockholm.  It was a 19th century, delicately carved, gold leaf hall mirror with an interesting story. The mirror, topped with two fluttering lovebirds carrying a string of flowers, was a prop in legendary director Ingmar Bergman’s film, Fanny and Alexander. True, there were dozens of mirrors in that movie… almost one in every scene. So it was fun to watch the film over and over, to identify our mirror.  That mirror graced the last 4 homes we lived in. Now one of our good customers carries forward the storied past of this special mirror.

Africa inspires all kinds of exotic home accents.  Check out this handmade tribal quilt with multi-colored, African round huts. Purchased in Swaziland, this king-sized covering could become the focal point of a bedroom either on a bed or on a wall.  Vibrant, primary colors on a black background make a bold statement… a piece that just makes you feel happy. Hang these two Zulu warrior art collages made of banana leaves and you’ll be dreaming of your African adventure in no time.

But, almost 50% of Sequels’ inventory comes from consigned pieces and some special places our consigners have traveled. Just this week we consigned two wonderful art pieces by noted South Vietnamese artist Lebadang. One of the original abstract works is silkscreened on gold leaf with red accents. The other is soothing blues and greens of a warrior and his horse. Both are beautifully framed and signed by the artist. Lebadang emigrated to Toulouse, France in 1939 to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He had his first one-man show in Paris in 1950. He gained attention in 1966 in America during his first one-man exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Sequels is the kind of shop where you search for a special treasure at really great prices. Yes, we feature top quality, gently-used, brand name furniture like Stickley, Ethan Allen, Thomasville to name a few. But you’ll also find interesting accessories from glitzy and glamorous to remarkable and rustic…furnishings to inspire your designs.

Stop by our main showroom at 5 Railroad Street in Victor or the warehouse at 100 Rawson Road to take a look at what we’ve found or what has found us this week.
